The ESTELLA project is a response to the pressing need for environmental education and awareness in Europe. As our world faces the interconnected challenges of climate change and environmental degradation, Europe is taking significant steps towards a greener and more sustainable future. Initiatives like the European Green Deal underscore the urgency of addressing these issues, with young people ranking environmental protection and climate action as top priorities.
However, there is a significant gap in how these critical topics are addressed in education. UNESCO's Learn for our planet study revealed that many educational curricula in 50 countries lack adequate coverage of climate change and biodiversity, while socioemotional skills and action-oriented competencies are often overlooked.
The ESTELLA project is all about bridging this gap and empowering both teachers and students to become environmental champions.
